A house with sea in the background

The interior designer Isabel Thomas took care of the decoration of this detached house of the fishing village of O Grove, on the coast of Pontevedra. Located on the beachfront, it enjoys spectacular views over the sea and plenty of light, but its decoration has little in common with that of a conventional beach house. It is a cozy and comfortable home, with current environments and a functional distribution, in two heights.

On the ground floor, where the common areas were located, there is no partition; the space is diaphanous and it is the stairs and the toilet - located in the center of the room - that are responsible for dividing it into two environments. On one side is the hall, integrated into the living room, and on the other, the dining room and kitchen. The latter, completely hidden from the living area without walls.

In the decoration of the living room stands out its color scheme -based on the contrast between white and gray- which is also repeated in the bedrooms. The former enhance the clarity of the house, and the grays, along with the ipe wood parquet, they clarify it, to avoid being annoying. The choice of furniture translates into the visual expansion of the space; the fair pieces and horizontal lines leave the walls clear. Its distribution, which respects the passage area, contributes to that feeling, as well as the parquet, which unifies and gives visual continuity to the environments.

A sofa with chaise-longue, upholstered in gray leather, stars in the decoration in this room, a diaphanous space, which gained breadth by incorporating the hall. A low furniture, in ash color, and a mirror make up the entrance, which was delimited with a carpet and the back of the sofa. The living area

White and gray harmonize in this bright living room, decorated with contemporary furniture. The key decision was not to saturate the space and opt only for basic furniture. A low cabinet for the TV and a sideboard, both in gray tones, were placed on the wall opposite the sofa with chaise-longue. Between them, a coffee table, upholstered in white leather and protected by glass, and a clear carpet enhance the luminosity. Next to the window of the terrace was a chaise-longue upholstered in leather, to enjoy the privileged views of the sea, and reading.

The stairs that lead to the bedrooms with a transparent railing do not recharge the space while giving a cutting edge air to the living room. Low furniture and sideboard in ash gray tone; white leather chaise longue; lamps; Naturtex rug, with gray border and accessories. Everything, acquired in the Thomas Interiorismo studio.

Main bedroom

The headboard, the bedside table and the table are very visible designs on the white background in an environment where chocolate and red tones give more relief to the bed. On the contrary, the built-in wardrobe hardly stands out; its sliding doors, lacquered in the color of the walls, merge with them and go unnoticed. The master bedroom has access to a terrace with splendid sea views and enough space to place a table and chairs. The terrace thus becomes, on the sunniest days, a second room environment, which relieves the rest area. Inside, ivory-colored curtains shade the entrance of natural light if necessary, while the bedding, with stripes in various colors tones with the headboard and avoids the excess clarity that would produce the quilt. The aged travertine marble, with its rough and irregular texture, creates a very natural environment in the bathroom. The mirror, with a worn frame, harmonizes in this environment. Under the flown countertop, with a built-in rectangular washbasin, there is a piece of furniture with drawers, designed by the decorator, with a very practical distribution: two tray-type drawers and two more with capacity; Its front, with a finish similar to that of the bedside tables, has consistency with the furniture of the rest of the house. Ideas with Ingenuity.

- The hall, open to the living area, was decorated with a low and extra long furniture, which anticipates the modern decoration of the rest of the house. A console was discarded because it would have been small on that wall.
- The success in choosing the gray color of furniture. These, next to the wooden floor of ipe give coherence to the environments.
- The chaise-longue and the floor lamp, both of modern design, bring sophistication and style to the living area.
- In the master bedroom, the built-in wardrobe lacquered in the same tone of the walls merges with them until it becomes invisible; The space seems wider and the bed gains prominence.
